SAPD officers fatally shoot 18-year-old man following traffic stop, police say

It happened early Tuesday morning on the west side of San Antonio. Police said the man ran from the car and pulled out a weapon.

SAN ANTONIO — A man is dead after being shot by two SAPD officers on the west side of San Antonio early Tuesday morning.

San Antonio Police were called out to Colima Street and Guadalupe Ybarra Street around 5 a.m. for reports of an incident.

Police say that officers had pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation when two people got out and ran off. They said one of the suspects pulled out a weapon and turned towards officers a few blocks over on Gus Garcia.

That's when the two officers fired their weapons, killing the suspect, who has been identified as Richard Rodriguez, 18.

The other suspect, identified as Brittany Legree, 27, was taken into custody.

SAPD Officer Albert Sanchez has been with the police force for 16 years and SAPD Officer Alexander Suttles for four years. They will be placed on administrative duty while the incident is investigated.

This would be the 20th shooting this year involving a San Antonio Police officer.
