Man dies in house fire on south side of San Antonio

Fire officials say they knocked down the fire quickly, but did find one resident who was wheelchair-bound died in the fire.

SAN ANTONIO — Fire officials say a man has died in a house fire Thursday morning on Commercial Avenue on the south side.

The fire started around 9:20 a.m. at a home in the 4000 block of Commercial, near the intersection with Gillette. Someone staying in a trailer on the same property made the call to firefighters and informed them the resident may be inside.

Fire officials say they knocked down the fire quickly, but did find one resident who was wheelchair-bound died in the fire. The fire started near the front of the house, which is near where the victim was found.

The fire is still under investigation and crews did not say how it started. 

No one else was inside the home. The victim has not yet been identified.
