Man drives into the Comal River while trying to run from police, New Braunfels officials say

Police said he sped off and crashed into the Comal River on Landa Park Drive with the back end of his vehicle in the water.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — New Braunfels Police say they arrrested a man they say crashed into the Comal River while trying to run from officers.

The incident happened around10 a.m. Thursday when police said they tried pulling over Jaime Humberto Cruz Rodriguez for speeding through Landa Park.

Police said he sped off and crashed into the Comal River on Landa Park Drive with the back end of his vehicle in the water. Officers had to wade through the water to pull Cruz Rodriguez from the driver's seat. 

He was rushed to a New Braunfels hospital, where he once again tried to tried to run away, this time on foot, police said. He was quickly caught and once he was medically cleared, he was taken to the Comal County jail. 

He is charged with driving while intoxicated, evading arrest and escape from custody.
