SAN ANTONIO — A man was pronounced dead on Tuesday after officials say he drowned in a pool closed for maintenance at an apartment complex north of downtown.

Authorities said the unidentified victim got into the pool at the Tuscany Park Apartments on the 1200 block of Patricia Drive, despite all entrances of the pool being locked.

Staff observed the man struggling and tried to assist but were reportedly unable to get him out.

The male victim, believed to be in his 40s, sank to the bottom of the pool, making it difficult to see him under the murky water.

Officials said fire crews then arrived at the scene and were able to get the man out. They performed life-saving measures but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Bexar County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine if any medical issues occurred, which may had led to the drowning.

It is unknown at this time if the victim was a resident of the apartments.

This is a developing story.
