Teen fatally shot outside northeast-side apartments, SAPD says

One witness said this is not the first violent incident to take place at this location.

SAN ANTONIO — A young man was fatally shot Sunday afternoon on the northeast side of town, near Brooke Army Medical Center.

San Antonio Police responded to the 3700 block of Binz Engleman Road, not far from BAMC, around 1:20 p.m. Sunday for reports of a shooting in progress.

When officers arrived, they found a young male victim had been fatally shot in the parking lot. Police say that a lot of folks heard the gunshots, but nobody has come forward who actually saw anything.

No description was provided of the suspect or suspects involved in this shooting.

Police were going to search the area to see if there was any evidence captured on a doorbell camera.

One witness who we spoke with said this is not the first violent incident to take place at this location.

“This happens all the time," Kelton Hutchins said. "This apartments is violence.”

Multiple 9 mm shells were found at the location, police said.

Hutchins said he heard five gunshots and rushed outside to see his friend lying in the middle of the parking lot.

“He’s a good friend, ain't have to happen like that," Hutchins said. "He’s 17 years old, 17. He could’ve been in school doing something better than this.”

Hutchins said he is trying to move out of the apartments because he is concerned for his safety. Many other people at the scene Sunday expressed those same concerns.

"Stop the killing, stop it," Hutchins said.
