SAN ANTONIO — A man was struck and killed by a driver while helping someone fix a flat tire on the west side of town late Saturday night.

San Antonio Police responded to the 6900 block of NW Loop 410 Access Road around 11:20 p.m. for reports of an incident.

Police say the 40-year-old victim was standing in back of a black 2007 Ford Explorer Sportrac getting a car jack out of the bed of the truck in order to help someone fix a flat tire when the driver of a red 2001 Mitsubishi Galant hit him. The Ford had the hazard lights on and was on the side of the access road.

Police say the driver of the Mitsubishi said he had just exited from Loop 410 and took his eyes off of the road for an instant when something fell from the passenger seat to the floorboard of his car. That driver hit both the victim and the Ford he was standing behind.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was not intoxicated, according to police, and not distracted by his mobile communication device.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries where he died. He has been identified as Ramon Saucedo, Jr. 40.

This investigation remains ongoing.
