Man in custody after police say he pointed weapon at them

Initially, police were called to the location for a report of domestic violence.

SAN ANTONIO — A man is in custody after investigators say he pointed a gun at a San Antonio police officer.

Police say it happened as they were responding to a family violence call on Bartmer Avenue, just north of Culebra Road on the west side of town around 8:40 p.m. Friday.

Officers arrived and spoke with a 36-year-old woman outside of the home. She told police the 36-year-old man might be in the backyard of the location.

When officers walked into the backyard, they saw the suspect armed with a weapon, which he pointed at the officers. According to investigators, the officer pulled out his gun but backed off and called for help.

The officers notified dispatch of the situation, and more officers arrived to form a perimeter around the location.

A K9 officer was brought out to help take the 36-year-old man into custody without any further incidents.

Police haven't yet released the name of the suspect, who is also facing family violence charges.

He was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation.

Charges are currently pending at this time.
