Man on improperly lit scooter wearing dark clothing struck and killed by driver, SAPD says

The victim was wearing dark-colored clothing while riding his scooter with improper lighting and the driver of the truck did not see him.

SAN ANTONIO — A man riding a scooter was hit and killed by a person driving a truck on the west side of townlate Friday evening, police say.

San Antonio Police responded to the 9500 block of West Commerce Street near Callgahan Road around 9:23 p.m. for reports of a fatal accident.

When officers arrived at the location, the 42-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the victim was riding an electric motorized scooter eastbound on West Commerce Street in a lane with the flow of traffic. The scooter did not have proper lighting on a dimly lit street and the rider was wearing dark clothing, police say. 

A man driving a GMC truck was traveling the same direction and struck the scooter rider with the front right side of his truck.

The area does not have a shoulder. 

Police say the driver was unable to see the man on the scooter until it was too late.

No other information was provided.

No word on if any charges will be brought against the driver.
