Man killed after crashing his car into fence on north side identified and tied to street racing

Police say Vasquez died after crashing on Briarcliff Drive near Blanco Road earlier this month.

SAN ANTONIO — SAPD investigators believe 30-year-old Daynier Bello Vazquez’s death was tied to street racing. Vazquez was killed after he crashed his car into a fence on the north side of town February 4.

Crime Stoppers and SAPD are looking for the driver of a white four door sedan who police say was traveling southbound on Blanco Road racing the victim.

San Antonio Police officers responded to the 800 block of Briarcliff Drive near Blanco Road around 2:28 a.m. for reports of a single-car accident.

When police arrived, they found a driver that lost control and crashed into a fence. The car caught fire immediately following.

Officer Ricardo Guzman has a warning for the community as detectives search for the driver of this white four door sedan who they believe was racing the victim in the early morning hours of February 4th.

“If you’re someone who’s driving on the highway, not related at all, and you see these individuals racing on the highway, pull off to the side get out of their way,” Guzman said.

Guzman says detectives believe only one other car was involved.

“We don’t know how many maybe were in the car,” he said. “But we do know there was another vehicle. So anyone with any information on who that could be. Where we could locate that vehicle. Maybe lead us to apprehending the suspects, that’s what we’re looking for.”

They believe the driver returned to the scene without rendering aid or providing information. Guzman says racing is a high-risk danger to the community.

“Racing can result in death and crashes, individuals getting hurt, other people unrelated getting hurt. So there’s a lot of risk when these individuals try to race on the highway.”

Crime Stoppers may pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the other driver involved. If you know anything you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP. You can remain anonymous.
