North Texas man killed after suspect shot up the wrong house, police say

According to police, the shooting happened Wednesday evening.

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas — A 52-year-old was killed in a shooting Wednesday night in North Richland Hills, police said.

According to the North Richland Hills Police Department, officers responded to the 7300 block of Stonybrooke Drive around 10:57 p.m. after several reports of gunshots in the area. According to police, a car pulled up on the street, stopped and its occupants fired several times into the home of Brian Pence, striking him while he was sleeping. Despite life-saving efforts, Pence died from his injuries in JPS Hospital's emergency room.

There are at least two divots in the home's exterior wall that resemble bullet holes. Neighbors told WFAA the gunshots rattled their doors Wednesday night.

Three people who live nearby called Pence a "good person" and said he often volunteered his help.

"They're quiet, peaceful people," said Robin Moran, who lives next to Pence's home. "Why them? Why?"

In a statement posted by North Richland Hills PD, their department and Fort Worth PD arrested three suspects, who are not from North Richland Hills, in connection with the murder. Police said the suspects were intending to carry out a drive-by shooting on another target, but got the wrong house.

North Richland Hills Police are still investigating but said they believe everyone involved has been arrested.

"I've been up the last 24 hours just wondering if my family is safe," Moran said. "Was it accidental? Was it purposeful? Are they going to come back and do it again?"
