SAN ANTONIO — Police have arrested two more suspects in connection to the shooting of another man who was left in a ditch near South Flores Street, bringing the total number of suspects to three.
David Francisco Rebelo-Garcia, 19, and James Jose Garcia, 18, have been arrested and are being charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Steven Gagne. The 36-year-old victim lost his life on March 30 while trying to sell a gun. A 16-year-old was previously arrested in connection to this death.
San Antonio Police responded to the intersection of East Vestal Place and Chaucer Avenue around 10:42 p.m. March 31 for reports of a shooting in progress.
When officers got there, they found Steven Gagne, 36, in a ditch. He had been shot multiple times. He was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.
According to the arrest affidavit, that meet-up for the purchase was coordinated by the two suspects through social media.
Police say a group of men arrived for the sale, Gagne presented a box with the gun inside, and that’s when one of the suspects took the firearm from the victim’s hand.
Gagne drew his gun from his holster and shots were fired between the victim and the suspects. Gagne was hit and later died from his injuries at the hospital, police say.
In the days after the shooting, police say Gagne’s friend gave them social media messages identifying the suspects involved and showing Rebelo-Garcia making arrangements to buy the firearm.
However, it was the suspect’s friend who gave police audio recordings where they say the gunman confessed to shooting Gagne along with Rebelo-Garcia and Garcia.
