SAN ANTONIO — A man shot his neighbor's dog that he says was attacking his goats on his property on the south side of town, according to police.
San Antonio Police were dispatched to the 300 block of West Villaret Boulevard, not far from Moursund Boulevard, just after 10 a.m. for reports of someone shooting a dog.
The homeowner, Richard Imming, told KENS 5 he’s had to take matters into his own hands before when it comes to addressing roaming animals attacking his goats in his backyard.
When officers arrived, they were told that the neighbor's dog got inside Imming's backyard and was attacking his goats. He was not home at the time, but his daughter called him and told him what was happening.
Imming told officers this was not the first time this has happened, with not necessarily the same dogs, but other dogs from around the neighborhood.
“I’m worried about leaving to go to work because I’m worried about my animals," he said. "I don’t know if you can hear my goat, it’s crying in the background because it’s half dead.”
When the man got home, he reportedly shot the dog, wounding him. City of San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS) arrived to retrieve the wounded dog from the man's property. ACS confirmed that it is the neighbor’s dog, a male shepherd mix.
According to ACS the dog had dug under the fence and attacked the goat. The goat was severely injured. Imming said he could not afford treatment and surrendered the goat to ACS.
Although the dog is gone now, Imming is concerned a similar situation could happen again.
“I keep protecting the yard, keep fixing fence repair after repair, but I don’t know what’s going on with Animal Control about them taking the dogs or what because they were supposed to take the dogs the last go round and I still see dogs there,” he said.
Imming told police that he is fed up because this has happened numerous times where dogs have invaded his property.
The dog's owner was issued 15 citations including no proof of rabies vaccination, allowing an animal to roam onto private property and several others.
Police say Imming is not facing any charges at this time.
