Man fatally shot in store parking lot while meeting someone on behalf of his mother, police say

It happened at a Family Dollar on the west side of town late Tuesday night.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was shot outside of a closed Family Dollar store on the west side of town while trying to meet someone on behalf of his mother, according to police. He died at the hospital, according to officials.

San Antonio Police responded to the 5800 block of Culebra Road around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday for reports of a shooting in progress outside of the Family Dollar store, which was closed.

A sergeant on the scene says two men approached the man's truck and asked for his name. The victim told officers he felt uncomfortable and tried to drive away, but the two suspects opened fire at his truck. He was shot twice in the back.

The suspects drove off after shooting him. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he reportedly died from his injuries. He has been identified as Joshua Solis, 23.

Police say a woman was with him in the truck but did not say if she was injured.

Detectives are now investigating.

This is a developing story.

What we've learned

A pastor at the church just across from the Family Dollar store where Solis was shot is said to be where his family worships. The pastor telling KENS 5 their security cameras caught the shooting on tape but in order to respect family they do not want to release the footage to the public.

While KENS 5 was in the parking lot of the church a man approached the team, claimed to be Solis' cousin and asked if any more was known about the shooting.

Soon after loved ones would tie balloons and flowers to a pole near the parking lot for Family Dollar to create a memorial for Solis.
