Man shot in neck in what police say is latest road rage incident in San Antonio

Police tell us the 21-year-old man is in stable condition from the gunshot wound, and is expected to survive.

SAN ANTONIO — A man is in critical condition after he was shot in the neck in what police are saying is the latest road rage incident in San Antonio.

San Antonio Police responded to the 4700 block of West Military Drive near Old Pearsall Road just after 1 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

Police still aren't sure where the incident began, but say the victim was riding in the back seat of a truck with two other people when the shooting occurred. Police say a lifted black pick-up truck drove up to them and began interacting with the other truck in what they told officers was road rage.

Someone in the black truck pulled a gun and began shooting at the other truck, hitting the 21-year-old man in the neck.

The victim was driven to a store on West Military Drive where they called for help.

The driver of the truck and the other passenger were reportedly uninjured.

Police say the suspect's truck was black and was lifted in some fashion. If you have any information, you are asked to call police.

This is a developing story.

What's being done:

Dean Desoto with Community Alliance for Traffic Safety said they're working to find out why these road rage incidents happen. Desoto said it's a matter at looking at what causes this and how to prevent it.

He said recent studies show San Antonio is experiencing a rise in road rage incidents and could soon be the leading city for those incidents in Texas.

Desoto added that for every 1,000 drivers in Houston and every 1,000 drivers in Dallas there are four road rage incidents for each. For San Antonio the average is 10 road rage incidents for every thousand.

CATS Texas is working on new approaches and technology to tackle this issue.
