HOUSTON — Houston police are trying to track down the driver who hit and killed a man on Westheimer Road just west of the Galleria Monday night.
Investigators said the victim was crossing the street in his motorized wheelchair and wasn't in a crosswalk.
It happened around 10:25 p.m. in the westbound lanes near the 610 West Loop.
The 67-year-old man may have been homeless and panhandling, which is common in that area.
He was rushed to an area hospital but didn't survive. His name wasn't released.
Plastic bags filled with the man's belongings were scattered in the median.
Police believe he was hit by a white SUV whose driver kept going.
Anyone with information on the wanted driver and vehicle is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072 or call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
