Marc Whyte reinstated to City Council committee assignments

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg says Whyte can resume working on his originally assigned committees.

SAN ANTONIO — District 10 City Councilman Marc Whyte has been allowed to resume city council committee activity after being suspended following his DWI arrest, according to a memo sent from the office of Mayor Ron Nirenberg.

Whyte is assigned to the Public Safety, Audit, and Economic and Workforce Development committees.

Whyte was suspended from committee assignments in January following his DWI arrest in December.

"I removed Councilmember Whyte from committee work to demonstrate we take drinking and driving seriously," a statement from Nirenberg said.

Whyte was arrested in late December on the north side after police say he showed signs of intoxication after being pulled over. He was briefly put in jail before posting bail.

"Councilmember Whyte's case is working its way through the courts and I appreciate that he has since been transparent and committed to reconciling his behavior with what we should expect from a member of the council going forward," Nirenberg added.

According to the memo, Nirenberg will evaluate the entire City Council committee roster in the summer.
