SAN ANTONIO — Young cancer patients at Methodist Children's Hospital don't often get to leave the walls of the facility, so they're hoping a music superstar will visit them while he's in town this weekend for a concert performance.
"Several of our patients knew that JT was coming for this concert on Saturday. Our patients love YouTube; they are constantly on YouTube, so they've seen other kids and other hospitals do things to be able to get celebrities to come," Child Life Specialist Ashley Farish said.
And you don't get much bigger than Justin Timberlake. So the kids made posters and an awesome dancing video to try to bring the superstar to Methodist.
"We have the most amazing children. They really reflect our community and they are excited Justin Timberlake is coming to town, and they want him to come see them at the hospital," Methodist Chief Operating Officer Elizabeth Ortega said.
The video, which has only been online for two days, has gone viral nationwide, and has had quite a response. Ortega told us, "It made me cry. They are so cute and they love to have fun, and they are kids."
21-year-old patient Maria was chosen by the medical team to receive two tickets to Timberlake's concert this Saturday, which were donated by a community member. Farish told us, "When I let her know that she was the one that was chosen from someone out in the community, immediately tears came to her eyes."
Ortega added, "She's had a tough road and she has a lot more treatment to go, so for her to have this opportunity is incredibly special and truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
So we know the kids want JT to bring some sunshine in his pockets, but the staff wants to show JT how much they want him to visit them too. "JT, come see us," Ortega said. "Our children can't come and see you, and you would change so many lives if you came to Methodist Children's Hospital. So please, JT, come see us!"
