Metro Health holding flu vaccination event at Alamodome Wednesday

The flu shots will be free and given out while supplies last.

SAN ANTONIO — Flu season is here, but luckily right now the activity level is low in Bexar County. However, Metro Health wants you to be protected from the virus. That why their holding a mass vaccination event at the Alamodome on Wednesday.

The event is first come, first serve and the vaccines are free for those who come out to get the shot.

Metro Health will be giving 250 doses of the vaccine, and they say this is a good time to get it.

Flu season began on October 1, which is when Metro Health began tracking the data for Bexar County.

Right now, the positivity rates appears to spike between week one and two. But Metro Health says that rate of 65% is based on one week's worth of data.

So with that, along with other factors in mind, the activity level is reported as low.

Still, Metro Health says the vaccine is the first step towards protection, especially for those in the community vulnerable to illness.

“So its important our that our elderly, our disabled, our children, the young and the old also get the vaccine because they are the most vulnerable to the flu itself,” said George Perez, Operations Manager for Public Health Emergency Preparedness. “Flu is still out there and it’s a bgi killer across the world so just like it's important to stay on top of your COVID regimen. It's also important to stay on top of your flu vaccine.”

The vaccination event kicks off 8 a.m. and it will go until 2 p.m., or while supplies last.

Those interested can come here to the Alamodome, which is on Montana Street.

You will want to enter at south gate entrance 24 and 25.

If you can't make it out on Wednesday, Metro Health hosts weekly pop clinics on a smaller scale.
