Migrants at resource center in need of warm clothing, blankets, begging for food

"A lot of people, lots of children trembling from the cold. I have children too, and honestly it's ugly to see the people suffering here," says Maria Terrazas.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Migrant Resource Center continues to be overwhelmed with the flow of migrants coming to San Antonio. The recent cold front has also left migrants in need of warm clothing and blankets.

"What I see is mass chaos," says Ione McGinty. McGinty lives in the area around the migrant center.

She says she's concerned some of the migrants at the resource center are not being properly cared for, and is concerned for her neighborhood.

"I've seen people are always here in this shopping center parking lot, begging for food.  I've seen black market stuff going on.  I've seen people behind the shopping center doing other prostitution type stuff," says McGinty.

McGinty says when she came by yesterday, many migrants were hungry.  Jenefer Melo, who came with her family from Venezuela says she wanted a better quality of life for her daughters, but needs help while she makes her way to California.

"Clothes for the cold, we didn't know it gets so cold, blankets and food.  What is going on here is that they give us little food," says Melo.

Some people like Maria Terrazas saw the needs as she was picking up food nearby, and decided to help out with what she could.

"A lot of people, lots of children trembling from the cold.  I too have children, and honestly it's ugly to see the people suffering here," says Terrazas.

Terrazas says the migrants are asking for blankets, sweaters, and shoes.  She says if you can, you should try and help.

McGinty says she doesn't understand why so many migrants are hungry, and begging for food.

"I feel like these people are being taken advantage of. I feel like our tax dollars are being taken advantage of, and it needs to be investigated," says McGinty.
