'It's hard to comprehend' | Mother of Suzanne Simpson says they spoke the night she went missing

One week after the Olmos Park mother went missing, family and friends gathered for a prayer vigil as they await answers.

SAN ANTONIO — It has been a week since Suzanne Simpson, the Olmos Park Mother of four, went missing. On Sunday night, family and friends gathered for a prayer vigil in San Antonio.

Suzanne’s mother, Barbara Clark spoke about her daughter and her son-in-law, Brad Simpson. Brad is currently in the Bexar County jail, accused of assaulting Suzanne before she went missing.

"I just don't understand why it happened," Clark said. "It wasn't a part of their life."

Clark admitted she does not think her daughter is alive.

“It took me a little while to come to the conclusion that she would have called me so in my brain I felt she was dead at that point,” Clark said.

Clark said on October 6, the night Suzanne went missing, she spoke with her daughter.  Investigators said that night Suzanne and Brad were at the Alamo Heights private club, The Argyle. The couple reportedly got into a fight at the club.

“She called me up and told me the things Brad had done to her physically,” Clark said. “Well, I came up with an alternative plan for her and hoped that she’d move in with me and have her little toddler go to the elementary school in my neighborhood. I never got to tell her the plan.”

According to Brad Simpson’s arrest warrant, a neighbor saw the couple having a physical altercation outside their home off East Olmos Drive. Shortly after, he heard screams from a wooded area nearby.

Investigators said the couple’s child also reported to a teacher that her parents had been fighting and that Brad hit Suzanne in the face then took away her cell phone.

“It’s hard to comprehend,” Clark said. “It’s hard to believe it happened.”

Brad Simpson reported Suzanne missing a day after she was last seen. He is currently facing charges of assault and unlawful restraint. Investigators have said he is not cooperating.

“I’d tell Brad that I would like to visit with him and ask him why, what happened?” Clark said. “I’m shocked. I had a lot of admiration for him.”

Clark said the family is doing the best they can to cope with the situation and the support they are receiving from the community helping.

“She was a very positive person,” Clark said. “She was a very pleasant person in my life and when she was a little child, she was just such a joy.”

As of Sunday, DPS did not give an update to the investigation. Brad Simpson has a bond hearing on Tuesday. However, the U.S. Marshals have placed a hold on him, meaning he would go into federal custody if he bonds out.

Clark said she will continue to rely on her faith as the family waits for answers.

"Suzanne, we love you. We need you and we're praying for you," Clark said.
