SAN ANTONIO — A mother is facing charges after her 7-month-old baby nearly drowned in a bathtub Tuesday, San Antonio police said.
Officers responded to a call for a drowning in the 8800 block of Starcrest Drive around 3:20 p.m. When police arrived, officers found the mother performing chest compressions on the baby.
First responders took over life-saving measures and the baby was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Police said the mother, a 29-year-old woman, had left the baby in the tub with the water running and went to the kitchen for several minutes. When she returned, the tub was overflowing, and the baby was not responding. Police said the woman was charged with injury to a child.
Police are still investigating.
