SAN ANTONIO — While this is typically a joyous time of year, that’s not always the case for those who have lost loved ones. That’s why a group of San Antonio-area parents will gather on Monday to remember their children who were murdered.
Lori Rocha will be there to light a candle to honor her son, Aaron. “My life isn’t the same. It will never be the same,” Rocha said.
Aaron was killed in a road rage incident off Huebner Road on Nov. 26, 2016, a few weeks after his 25th birthday. It’s a murder that’s gone unsolved for two years.
“My world was shattered,” Rocha said. Every day, Rocha holds her son’s memory close to her heart.
“He had a smile that could light up a room,” she said.
And, once a year, Rocha gathers with The San Antonio Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children for a candlelight vigil. She wants the world to remember her son, lost too soon.
“Remember his smile, and his unconditional love,” she said. “And, remember that he should still be here."
While Rocha waits for justice in her son’s murder, she hopes others will join her in lighting a candle to keep her son’s memory alive.
“It’s hard, every single day, to know my son is never coming back,” she said. “His light shines on."
The vigil is for families and friends of those who have died by violence, however, the public is welcome to attend in support of the families.
The vigil will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday Dec. 10, in the Parish Center Room 211 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Drive, San Antonio.
