Owner of Mrs. Kitchen Soul Food restaurant pleads for help to business running

The casual, welcoming restaurant serves soul-food staples like catfish, fried chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens and candied yams.

SAN ANTONIO — The owner of Mrs. Kitchen Soul Food Restaurant started a fundraiser to get support to the keep the business running.

Owner Garlan L. McPherson created a GoFundMe page to help with finances. In the post, McPherson cited rising costs as the reason for needing help. The casual, welcoming restaurant serves soul-food staples like catfish,  fried chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens and candied yams. It is located on Walzem Road in Windcrest.

"We started out in the community in 2011 and are very grateful for any and every person that has supported my business throughout the years. I have always tried to be a blessing in the community and I am asking the community to be a blessing to my business at this time," McPherson wrote in the post.

The goal of the GoFundMe is to raise $40,000. Click here to see the page.

This comes as several long-running local restaurants have announced they are closing, including Rio Rio Cantina on the River Walk, The Rustic at The Rim and Acadiana Cajun restaurant.
