Mystery surrounding death of young woman at 'rave' party at abandoned building

The shooting happened in the early morning hours on Saturday at the building on Old Pearsall Road, which used to be owned by Knights of Columbus.

SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Fire Marshal has shut down a building where a 21-year-old woman was shot and killed at a "rave"-like party Saturday.

The shooting happened in the early morning hours on Saturday at the building on Old Pearsall Road, which used to be owned by Knights of Columbus. A woman was found dead and a man was also shot and injured. The victim has been identified as Desirae Hope Rivera, 21, and the medical examiner confirmed she died by a gunshot wound to the head.

The Bexar County Fire Marshal has posted a notice, saying the building is unsafe, has no permit to operate, and that anyone found here is subject to civil or criminal action.

With regard to who's responsible for this place, Tax Collector Albert Uresti says the owner hasn’t paid his taxes since 2020 and the outstanding bill is $28,000.

The owner hasn’t been charged with any crime at this point, so investigators aren’t talking about him.

A statement released by Bexar County Fire Marshal says during an inspection, they discovered multiple code violations including dangerous electrical issues.

Meanwhile, no arrests have been made in the woman's death and Sheriff Javier Salazar is asking anyone with information or video that could be helpful to the investigation to come forward.  The sheriff said there could be several shooters and urge anyone to contact them at 210-335-6000 or email the department at bcsotips@bexar.org.
