National, State leaders comment on recent shooting spree in Texas

President Biden and Gov. Abbott released statements regarding the shooting spree that took place between San Antonio and Austin.

SAN ANTONIO — Earlier this week, a man, now identified as Shane James Jr., went on a shooting spree that police say left six people dead and several others injured. Now, National and State leaders are weighing in, not only giving the families involved condolences, but urging Americans to work together in the prevention of gun violence.

On Tuesday, President Biden went to X to post his, and Jill's, condolences to the "families of our fallen" and give thanks to the "courageous work of law enforcement – who risked their own safety to bring an end to these deadly shooting sprees."

Gov. Greg Abbott also turned to X to release his own statements on the shooting spree. Abbott said James "must never see the light of day again" after committing such a heinous crime. Just as Biden did, Abbott also said that he and his wife Cecilia are praying for "the recovery of those injured" along with thanking law enforcement that risked their lives to apprehend James.

James is still facing an active domestic violence warrant from 2022 and authorities are still processing new warrants for what he is accused of doing this week in Bexar County. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said, depending on the evidence gathered, James could be charged with either murder or capital murder in Bexar County.
