LeBron James Batman mask was fun while it lasted. The Miami Heat MVP torched the New York Knicks wearing a custom black carbon-fiber mask to protect his broken nose, but the NBA has requested that James begin wearing a league-approved mask. James initially appealed, but has agreed to choose from a selection of masks before the Heat host the Magic Saturday night, according to ESPN s Michael Wallace.
James and his teammates loved the mask. The Heat made shirts to commemorate the mask, but they are no longer available from the team store. Chris Bosh posed with it, and Bruce Wayne James posted a collage on Instagram.
The NBA did not approve the mask James wore against the Knicks, and the league has previously forced other players to abandon solid black masks. Kyrie Irving broke a bone in his nose last season and temporarily wore a black mask but switched to a clear version. NBA spokesman Tim Frank told the Sun Sentinel that James elected not to wear a clear mask against the Knicks because it was made from a heavier material.
