'It scared us' | Neighbors fed up with crime in far west side neighborhood

Following an aggravated robbery Sunday morning, two residents are speaking out about the state of the neighborhood.

SAN ANTONIO — Residents in one far west side neighborhood are concerned after an attempted robbery turned double shooting Sunday morning.

It happened off Ranch Valley Drive around 4 a.m. San Antonio police said a man shot two suspects who were armed as they were attempting to rob him. The two suspects were taken to the hospital, one is in critical condition.

The shooting happened outside a home some neighbors are describing as a party house. The homeowner declined to do an interview but told KENS 5, he does throw parties on the weekends but tries his best to keep them safe. He added, the shooting Sunday, was out of his control and outside his home.

Two neighbors KENS 5 spoke to wanted to remain anonymous. They said this is just the latest incident on the street that has left them feeling uneasy.

"It scared us,” One neighbor said. “It's gotten to a point where we feel like we need to look out the door before we walk outside at nighttime."

They claim over the past few years, the neighborhood has gone downhill. According to an online crime map, since January, there have been at least three other reported shootings on Ranch Valley Drive. In May alone, San Antonio police were called out to the street at least 11 times, according to online records.

One call for as a fight involving a gun, another for an assault and a handful of the calls were disturbance related.

"We're trying to live our life and they come over here and block the road, block the street,” One neighbor said. “We witnessed a woman pooping on our front yard."

The neighbors said they have spoken to the homeowner themselves but feel like he is ignoring their concerns. He told KENS 5, he can only control what happens inside his home, not outside.

His neighbors, however, are hoping he will consider putting an end to the partying.

"It's a constant nuisance to our entire neighborhood,” the neighbor said.

They are hoping SAPD will increase patrols in the area. KENS 5 has reached out to the police regarding these concerns and are waiting for a response.

"I hope they do something because it's ridiculous,” they said.
