Middle school teacher terminated after allegedly using racial slur in class

According to a viral video, the sixth-grade math teacher allegedly said the N-word during a lesson. NEISD said she will not be returning to Bradley Middle School.

SAN ANTONIO — A middle school teacher, who is accused of using a racial slur in class, has been terminated.

In a social media thread that has gone viral, X user ‘@hennytwote’ claimed his niece’s sixth-grade math teacher said the N-word in class.

It reportedly happened at Omar N. Bradley Middle School on May 14.

“Their teacher decided that they were going to show Hidden Figures for the math class,” the X user said. “The issue here is my nibbling recounted an experience of [the teacher] used the N word with a hard E-R to a classroom full of students that deeply disturbed them. Upon discussing the hiring practices of ‘back then,’ [the teacher] told a classroom full of students that they ‘didn’t hire N-words' – hard E-R – back then.”

The movie 'Hidden Figures' follows a team of African-American mathematicians who played a vital role in the early years of NASA’s space program.

@hennytwote's video has racked up nearly half a million views on X.

A Bradley Middle School student told KENS 5 his sister recalls the teacher saying the N-word twice.

“The entire room was silent and awkward,” @hennytwote continued in the video. “My sister has already contacted the Superintendent of the North East Independent School District (NEISD) in San Antonio, and she has also had a meeting with the Principal and Vice Principal.”

Monday afternoon, an NEISD spokesperson released the following statement:

We appreciate the parent that brought forward this concerning allegation. We do not condone racism and take this allegation very seriously. The teacher is currently on administrative leave and we are conducting a thorough investigation. Once it is complete, we will share what we are able to within the parameters of the law.”

However, just a few hours later, the spokesperson updated the district’s statement.

As of today, we have completed our investigation and the teacher in question will not return to Bradley or be employed anywhere within our District.”

According to the school’s website, the former educator worked at Bradley Middle School for the past 18 years and has been teaching for 30 years.

KENS 5 reached out to @hennytwote for comment, but we haven’t heard back yet.
