SAN ANTONIO -- Police responded Thursday to a report of bullets found scattered in a middle school hallway.
The ammunition was discovered at Dr. Bernard A. Harris Junior Middle School on Thursday around 9 a.m., according to Aubrey Chancellor, a spokesperson for North East Independent School District.
The school is located in the 5300 block of Knollcreek Dr., on the city's northeast side, near Loop 1604 and Judson Road.
Chancellor confirmed the bullets were found in a hallway; the school was placed on lock down for safety reasons. The lock down was lifted just after 2 p.m.
I want parents to know that their children are safe -- they are well taken care of -- and this is really just for a precautionary measure, Chancellor said. We just want to be very proactive in a situation like this.
Police combed through the campus, looking for contraband. Two K-9 units were called to help with the investigation around 10:30 a.m.
The police search yielded two additional bullets, according to NEISD officials.
An automated phone message was sent out to all the parents with children at the school. A group of concerned parents waited outside the school for updates.
No injuries were reported.
