New Braunfels woman claims attempted kidnapping

Women in New Braunfels are on alert after one woman reported a scary encounter at the H-E-B on South Walnut Avenue.

KENS 5 found women sharing their stories online, claiming men are targeting them at different stores in New Braunfels.

Fonda Beare said she was afraid she was going to be kidnapped from the H-E-B in Walnut Square.

Beare ran into the store last week to buy some bread when she said a man snuck up behind her and started flirting.

“I said sir, I’m married and he said ‘we don’t care if you’re married’,” Beare said.

He wasn’t alone, so Beare had employees escort her to her van.

“As soon as I get in my van, I turned around, I u-turned and all of a sudden this Charger, pulls up behind me, slams on its breaks and is right on me,” Beare said.

She said the car followed her home, but took off when a police cruiser drove by.

“I believe God gives you warnings about things and the minute that guy was in my personal space my hair was standing on end,” Beare said.

She’s contacting police now with hopes no one becomes a victim.

"I warn my daughters all the time that this is a big avenue for human trafficking, I have teenage daughters, never did I ever stop to think they would go after a 50-year-old woman with no make-up on, headed to the river,” Beare said.

“Anybody who feels they are a victim of a crime, or potentially was going to be a victim of a crime, should contact police, file a police report and that gets the ball rolling on detectives looking into it, police officers looking into it and potentially stopping what could be a crime,” David Ferguson, spokesperson for New Braunfels Police Department said.

Ferguson added if you find yourself in an uncomfortable situation, call 9-1-1, or your police department’s non-emergency number if you’re just not sure.
