New logo for downtown San Antonio revealed

SAN ANTONIO -- The new logo for downtown San Antonio was unveiled at a launch party in downtown.

SAN ANTONIO -- The new logo for downtown San Antonio was unveiled at a launch party in downtown.

On Thursday, Centro San Antonio hosted the event on the corner of East Houston Street and Jefferson with live music, food and drinks.

"It's going to be a nod to the quatrefoil, but it's a much more modern and progressive look. And it's one that has a great deal of flexibility and versatility that we can reach out to the various micro brands that we have in our downtown," said Pat DiGiovanni, president and CEO of Centro San Antonio.

The logo has the letter 'S' and 'A' in the center and the 'A' has a double meaning to it.

It's shaped as a water droplet, representing the San Antonio river and a compass, to mark the city's progress. The prominent lines in the logo are connected to represent the city's intertwined cultures.

"That's what our community is made up of. It's made up of past Titans, and great civic leaders and businesses that have really made San Antonio a special place. But then we also have to recognize that San Antonio is changing and we have new and innovative companies and businesses that are coming in," DiGiovanni said.

Earlier in the evening, Centro San Antonio recognized a number of organizations, businesses, and restaurants at the Centropolitan Awards event at the Majestic Theatre.

"It's a great award and we're honored to be on that list. San Antonio in the last couple of years has really made a big change in the food and beverage scene. And we've seen a lot of good restaurants evolve. Ours is one of them," said Shane Brun, Ostra director of food and beverage.

Centro San Antonio awarded the Lifetime Achievement honor to Rosemary Kowalski and Penner’s, Mark Penner. The Downtowner of the Year award went to Graham Weston, the former chairman of Rackspace.
