AUSTIN, Texas — A new political ad about protecting kids and improving school lunches features a Texas Republican lawmaker, her husband, and four children.

However, the kids are apparently "constituents."

According to the Texas Tribune, State Rep. Caroline Harris Davila, a Round Rock native, released the ad stating that she's protecting "our future" as she pats the smallest of four kids on the back while smiling and talking to the other three.

The ad ends as Harris Davila picks up the boy while her husband, Darrell Davila, puts his arm around another boy and smiles for the camera.

The Texas Tribune reached out to Harris Davila's campaign about the puzzling ad, who confirmed the kids, along with a woman featured earlier in the ad, are constituents. The Davilas married over a year ago and don't have any children together or from before their marriage.

Political ads aren't required to be factual, because the First Amendment protects political speech on television. However, questions remain regarding the ad and Harris Davila's campaign.

The Tribune also reports that recently, her campaign updated its website ahead of Election Day. Internet archives show the site listed "pro-life" as one of her top campaign issues. The website now doesn't list "pro-life" under issues, but only features a pro-life quote from Gov. Greg Abbott.

Harris Davila won by 12 points in 2022 as she faces Democrat Jennie Birkholz in Texas House District 52 for her first reelection. The rapidly changing district represents Hutto, Taylor, along with portions of Cedar Park, Georgetown, Leander, Liberty Hill and Round Rock.

Abbott is expected to speak at an event for Harris Davila on Wednesday in Hutto.
