SAN ANTONIO — We've watched her on the "CBS This Morning," and now San Antonio native Norah O'Donnell will be taking over the main evening chair once held by Walter Cronkite.
O'Donnell was officially named as the new anchor of the "CBS Evening News" today. She is a MacArthur High School graduate.
"She's one of those kids that we taught; she doesn't age! She still looks just like she did. That hairstyle is updated," said Barbara Dielmann and Cynthia Boeck, who are both retired but remember the teenage Nora O'Donnell and only have great things to say about her.
They added, "She was always a challenge, but she was a challenge in a positive way because she challenged teachers. She challenged the adults around her to be better."
O'Donnell was active in high school, including being a member of student council. The teachers told us, "She had all of those things that make her successful in what she does today were all evident when she was a teenager."
On the walls of MacArthur High are famous Brahmans. Including our very own Deborah Knapp. Just a few pictures away from O'Donnell. "Was she a little bit mischievous? Sometimes. Absolutely," said Dielmann.
In the junior yearbook, she was even quoted about playing pranks on substitute teachers along with her friends. The quote read, "We turned off all the lights and harassed her making strange noises."
It may have been 28 years since she's done a walk down those halls but her teachers say the outstanding and unique group of friends she had still has stuck together."
They are still so supportive of each other and they are not what you see so often in movies and TV shows with those popular girls that are mean," said Dielmann and Boeck.
They also had a message for O'Donnell.
The pair said, "I'm proud of you. Absolutely. Keep doing what you are doing. Very proud of you, and what a great representative of the school you've been, and what a great role model for women and for all young people."
