SAN ANTONIO — A fire at a vacant home on the southwest side of town is believed to be caused by homeless people staying inside, according to firefighters.
San Antonio firefighters were dispatched to the 1000 block of West Malone Avenue not far from Nogalitos Street around 11:11 p.m. Sunday for reports of a home on fire.
When first responders arrived, they found an unoccupied house on fire. Officials believe that some homeless people had been staying in the house but nobody was there when they arrived.
The fire started in the back of the house and made it into the attic. It was extinguished quickly, officials say.
The damages are estimated to be around $30,000.
Investigators are on the scene looking for the cause of the fire.
This is a developing story.
