Oktoberfest celebration to be held at La Villita for the first time

The free event will feature live performances, an array of German food and, of course, plenty of beer!
It's the first time it will be hosted at the historic arts district location.

SAN ANTONIO — PROST! Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and tastes of Germany right in the heart of San Antonio and the River Walk.

An Oktoberfest celebration is being held for the first time at La Villita this weekend. The free event will feature live performances, tons of German food and, of course, plenty of beer!

The event also includes children and family activities including face painting, balloon making and more. Performances at the event include Boerne Village Band, Yodel Blitz, Beethoven Dance Band, Hot Peppers Polka Band, Alsatian Dancers of Texas, Reed Meisters Band, Conjunto Heritage Taller, along with many others. There are four stages for music and performances. Click here for the full schedule.

Another unique thing about this event is that, because it is on the River Walk, you can have the opportunity to hop on the Oktoberfest Party Boat. The tickets start at $30 and includes two beers. The boat goes through the festival area as well as other parts of the River Walk.

While other Oktoberfests have been held in San Antonio and the Hill Country, this is the first year it has been held in La Villita Historic Village in San Antonio. Previous Oktoberfest celebrations were held at the Bier Garden River Walk, which closed earlier this year to make way for Alamo Plaza expansion. The Bier Garden River Walk returns with Mad Dogs Restaurant Group to add expertise on the festival.

The festival runs from Friday, Sept. 20 to Sunday, Sept. 22 at La Villita Historic Village.
