SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police shot a suspect who fired on officers at a park Wednesday afternoon on the south side, police said.
Law enforcement responded to Arnold Park at the 1000 block of Gillette near Zarzamora around 12:50 p.m.
Chief William McManus said as soon as officers exited their vehicles, someone on the volleyball court sand pit started firing at them. The suspect fired about 12 shots from a handgun. Officers returned fire and hit the suspect. The suspect ran about 50 yards until he collapsed, Chief McManus said.
The suspect was taken to the hospital in serious condition. He is 23 years old, McManus said.
The officers who fired shots will be placed on administrative duty pending the investigation.
This is the fourth shooting involving an SAPD officer in the month of March and the sixth one so far in 2023.
This is a developing story and further details will be added as they are received.
