'It's a blessing we got this' | Family of Pauline Diaz hopes to generate new tips with billboard in Floresville

The billboard will stay up for a year, an effort that the family hopes will generate new leads in the nearly 14 year search.

SAN ANTONIO — December will mark 14 years since Pauline Diaz disappeared, after driving away from a southeast side H-E-B parking lot where she worked.

Diaz's family has never give up hope of finding her, and now a new billboard in Floresville is helping keep that hope alive.

"It's a blessing that we got this, this location and this billboard for a year," said Paula Martinez, Pauline's daughter.

It's a blessing that the daughters of Pauline Diaz say is a testament to their faith.

"We have been praying from day one, and I believe in prayers," said Martinez.

For the next year if you're driving through Floresville, you will see a billboard, featuring Pauline Diaz, who has been missing since December 7, 2010.

Days after Diaz disappeared, her white Toyota Tacoma, along with several personal items including her purse were found in Wilson County, off County Roads 181 and 320.

"We are now targeting Floresville, Texas because of where her truck was found. The last person to see her was her estranged husband," said Martinez.

At the time of her disappearance, Diaz was in the process of filing for divorce of her husband Pedro Ruiz, who at the time lived in Wilson County.

"We have no clue whether she arrived at her home, and was ambushed from her house, of was she lured back here because of her estranged husband," said Martinez.

Diaz's daughters are hoping the new billboard will generate clues into her disappearance. The billboard is a product of two nonprofits, Season of Justice, who is paying for the billboard, and Search & Support San Antonio.

"Our goal is to raise awareness, and perhaps people have seen something or know something. There's no piece of information that's too small. Anything that someone remembers, or can tell us or tell the police would be very important, and might be the one piece of the missing puzzle that solves this entire mystery," said Lori Whitmeyer, intake coordinator with Search & Support San Antonio.

The Diaz sisters say the past 14 years, searching for answers has been tough, and some have told them to give up.

"My sister and I have chosen not to close our eyes. We chose to stand up and fight. Fight for our mother," said Martinez.

If you know anything about Pauline Diaz's disappearance you're urged to contact the Bexar County Sheriff's Office at 210-335-6000 or you can contact Search & Support San Antonio at 210-338-0027.
