SAN ANTONIO — Living here in South Texas, we all know how big the mosquitoes can get. While mosquitoes are around the entire year, there are some months where the population of mosquitoes grow.
Mosquitoes thrive on heavy rain, heat and humidity. Two seasons in particular provide that.
From spring to summer, the number of mosquitoes climb. Especially from late Spring into Summer.
Keep in mind, San Antonio observed a surplus in rainfall from March through May. This increase has resulted in more mosquitoes compared to normal.
It's typically in July and August where the trend becomes high to extreme on the mosquito populations because of the stagnant waters and abnormal heat.
The more rain we see in spring and early summer, the higher the mosquito counts are.
It's not until November that we see a significant fall in mosquito populations.
If you're experiencing problems with mosquitoes, Bexar county has an abatement program you can report to for any increased activity. Dedicated crews will respond and treat the area if warranted.
