SAN ANTONIO — A man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle on the city's east side Wednesday morning, officials say.
Around 6:40 a.m., San Antonio Police say a man was staggering across WW White Road and Brideman when he was hit by a vehicle. Police say the SUV did not stop and render aid, but instead fled northbound on WW White.
The suspect was identified as Alvin Charles Bates. An affidavit said surveillance video showed Bates' Dodge Durango hitting the victim, Abraham Ortega, then driving off. Part of his vehicle were left at the scene, and officials were able to link some of the vehicle pieces back to his Durango.
Bates admitted to hitting Ortega and said he didn't stop because he was scared. The affidavit says he told police the vehicle belongs to his girlfriend, but wouldn't tell police where the Durango is currently located.
He has been charged for failure to stop and render aid.
