KENDALLCO., Texas -- A 7-year-old girl is lucky to be alive after her mother reportedly set their home on fire in Kendall County.
Eye Witness News obtained the affidavit and it states 43-year-old Angel Hatter submitted four abuse complaints to Child Protective Services. Hatter said the girl's father was poking the child with needles all the way to the bone and was giving her drugs. CPS investigated the claims and determined they were false.
The affidavit said school administrators at Rahe Bulverde Elementary School also, reported hearing from Hatter. Thursday morning, administrators said Hatter called the school stating if she couldn't have her daughter, no one could. During the conversation, administrators also said Hatter warned them something was going to happen to her and if so, to make sure an autopsy was completed.
The school alerted CPS and a case worker then, contacted the sheriffs office. Sheriff Al Auxier said deputy Matthew Jacobson responded to the home on the 400 block of Acker Road. Jacobson reported seeing Hatter coming out of the home and noticed her hair was singed with fresh burn marks on her hands.
Then he heard a child screaming from inside the house and he went inside the house and there was a child in there, the 7-year-old daughter, said Auxier.
Jacobson noticed the smoke and fire throughout the home. He reported Hatter then stated: she set the house on fire and propane was filling the house.
The deputy immediately grabbed both the girl and Hatter away from the home. After questioning Hatter, Auxier said she was sent to Kerrville State Hospital. Her daughter is now being cared for by her father.
The sheriff confirmed propane gas was not the cause of the fire. State fire marshals were investigating the crime scene Friday morning and are still determining the cause.
