PLEASANTON, Texas — Pleasanton Primary School was evacuated as a precaution Thursday morning after a threat was made, officials say, and sheriff's deputies also responded to a Natalia ISD campus about 40 miles away.
In Pleasanton, the local police department said all district schools were on a "hold" status that was eventually lifted at 1:35 p.m. when "no threat was located." Meanwhile, Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown said at around 2:45 p.m. that a tip reported through the Natalia ISD mobile app about a gun was found to not be "viable."
School facilities were cleared in both cases.
Pleasanton ISD officials notified parents in a Thursday morning email about the campus "hold" there, saying a bomb threat had been made over the phone to Primary Campus. Police searched the area while students evacuated and officials initiated procedures to release them to parents.
"The Texas Rangers and a K9 team will be conducting a check of the Primary Campus," added Pleasanton police officials. "Once they are complete with the Primary they will move to other campus as a precaution. As of right now all other campuses are on a hold. Please be patient as the children's safety, security are our highest priority and are working with Pleasanton ISD to make sure are students are safe."
Natalia ISD posted around 3 p.m. about that district's situation, saying "the district-wide hold is over. The Medina County Sheriff's Office has completed their investigation and determined it is safe to go about your day."
Meanwhile, Northside ISD's Hobby Middle School in San Antonio initiated staggered release protocols Thursday afternoon due to a "situation off campus but near the school" that police were responding to. A district spokesperson confirmed no threats were made to the campus.
An SAPD spokesperson said officers were looking for someone believed to be in possession of a stolen vehicle.
