SAN ANTONIO — Seven people were questioned during a search of a house on the south side of San Antonio Friday.
A search warrant based on criminal activity was obtained for the home in the 300 block of Stace, near the intersection with Flores Street next to Concepcion Park. Police said they received reports of drugs and weapons being in the house.
SAPD surrounded the property and the people living there came out peacefully and were detained while officers investigated. Police say they found drug paraphernalia, stolen credit cards and other stolen items inside the house.
Police say the neighbors were relieved that investigators were looking into the property.
"The house is in pretty bad shape," said Eric Burns, Assistant City Attorney, Prosecution Division. "We are coming to a property that is deteriorating. There is no water in the house, seven or eight people are living there...the house and the structure are unsanitary and I know it is affecting the community."
Burns, who is head of the Dangerous Assessment Response Team (DART), said they had been investigating the property for two to three months. They worked with the department's Street Crimes Unit to execute the warrant. Burns said the people living in the home were paying rent, and SAPD has not yet made contact with the owner.
Burns said five animals were also found at the house, which all seemed in pretty good condition, though they may need medical attention. Animal Care Services was planning to examine the animals.
It is not clear if any of the people detained will face charges.
