Two suspected porch pirates in custody, SAPD says

Police say the pair is accused of taking hundreds of documents, checks, credit cards, and even medication from people around the city.

SAN ANTONIO — Are you missing any mail? Police say it may have been stolen and they now have two suspected porch pirates in custody.

San Antonio Police say the pair are accused of taking hundreds of documents, checks, credit cards, and even medication from people around the city.

Police are reminding you to check your mail daily and if you suspect something is wrong, report it immediately.

Brian Salinas and Elizabeth Elizalde were both taken into custody on Monday by police, suspected of mail theft. Police say an off-duty officer spotted them on his Ring doorbell camera stealing his mail.

When officers caught up to them, they say they found hundreds of documents in the front seat of their car.

Right now, the postal service and police are working to identify the victims of this case. Police say it will take time because of the amount of mail officers have to go through.

While police continue to investigate this case, they want you to keep these tips in mind.

“The department suggests that you get informed delivery," said Camelia Juarez. "This means that you get a notification that your mail has been delivered and you can make sure you are getting the mail you've been looking for. Another tip is to pull up a free credit report, to see if anybody has opened up an account without you knowing. You can look for suspicious behavior and it's free once a year to just look it up."

At this time both suspects are charged with possession of identifying information and mail theft.

This is a developing story.
