SAN ANTONIO — A standoff that began as a domestic dispute leads to five police officers shooting a man on the southwest side Friday night, according to Police Chief William McManus.
The call for help came in around 10:30 pm in the 100 block of Carranza Street near Frio City Road as a family disturbance with a gun involved.
McManus said there was an altercation inside a home involving a man, his partner, and that woman's teenaged son. McManus said during the conflict, the man, 35-year-old Isaac Gutierrez retrieved a weapon, which caused the woman and her 18-year-old son to run from the home.
Gutierrez was still inside the house with three other children after they fled, according to McManus.
McManus said when officers arrived they attempted to negotiate with Gutierrez to get him to drop the gun.
"He was standing in the doorway of the house and at some point, this is what we know right now, this is preliminary and subject to change, but at some point in those negotiations the suspect raised the gun and fired a round, at which time officers returned fire," McManus said.
McManus said three of the officers have been on the force for two years, one five years and another 13 years.
McManus said Gutierrez was struck and taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Gutierrez has since been released from the hospital and is in jail, authorities say.
