Bexar County deputies shut down illegal gambling operation, arrest four

“Establishments like this are not something that are welcome in the community,” says Sheriff Javier Salazar.

SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office served a warrant Monday night for an illegal gambling operation in the 6600 block of Lakeview Drive on the city’s northeast side.

According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, four people were arrested so far; they face numerous charges, including engagement in organized criminal activity. An estimated $5,000 has been recovered by BCSO so far, according to Salazar, but the machines themselves have not been accessed yet.

“Establishments like this are not something that are welcome in the community," said Salazar.

He adds that gambling organizations like these often have ties to organized criminal activity, which is why BCSO makes it a priority to shut these establishments down.

According to the sheriff, the existence of these establishments is not illegal, but the manner in which they pay out is.

Deputies are asking the surrounding community to be patient as authorities continue their operation. They expect to be on the scene for several hours.
