SWAT standoff on southwest side ends with suspect in custody

Police said a shooting suspect fled on a bicycle to a home along the 3100 block of Pitluk on Thursday afternoon.

SAN ANTONIO — Police say a SWAT standoff with a man who allegedly shot at a family member ended with the suspect in custody.

A heavy police presence was seen in a southwest-San Antonio neighborhood where officials say a family disturbance resulted in a shooting on Thursday afternoon.

The initial incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. along the 3000 block of Navajo, near Somerset and Southwest Military. Officials with the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) say an unidentified man shot at a relative in the area, missed, then fled on a bicycle to a home along the 3100 block of Pitluk a few blocks away.

"The caller reported that his family member stole his gun and they were having an argument over it," police said. "The argument escalated when the suspect fired rounds at the victim while he was in the yard."

Police arrived at the second home, and by 3:30 p.m. they were able to take the suspect into custody without incident.

This is a developing story.
