It happened around 9:15 p.m. Saturday off of the 800 block of South Trinity Street near Guadalupe Street on the west side of town.
San Antonio police were initially called out to the home for a shooting, and when officers got there, they found a man seriously injured.
He was taken to the hospital. While detectives were combing the scene for evidence hospital staff contacted officers and said the victim hadn't been shot at all.
Officers later learned someone at the home beat the man with a bat.
That suspect is still on the run this morning.
