CEDAR PARK, Texas -- An all-district high school football player with sights set on the University of Texas at San Antonio has been arrested in connection to the sexual assault of a child, according to court records.
Gregory Kelley, 18, was arrested on Monday and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.
According to an arrest warrant, the 4-year-old boy told authorities that Kelley had inappropriate contact with him on two occasions at an in-home daycare in the nearby town of Cedar Park. Authorities say Kelley lived in the home between December 2012 and June 2013.
Kelley is a senior at Leander High School, where he has been a leading force on the school's football team at the safety position.
He told reporters for the Austin American-Statesman in June that he has verbally committed to playing football at UTSA. He also told reporters that he received offers from Texas State and Rice.
Citing NCAA rules, a spokesman for UTSA athletics said he cannot comment on scholarships they have or have not offered prospective student-athletes.
According to records from Williamson County, Kelley has been released on a $50,000 bond.
Leander is about 20 miles north of Austin.
