AUSTIN, Texas — After a politically tumultuous week in the U.S., President Joe Biden will soon make his way to the Texas capital.

The trip was previously planned for July 15 but was postponed following an assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump just two days prior.

On Tuesday, the White House announced President Biden's plans to visit Austin on July 29, where he will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act at the LBJ Presidential Library.

The announcement comes after the president formally announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 race.

"It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President," President Biden shared in a statement. "And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term."

As the president canceled his reelection campaign, he endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to seek the bid. In just one day, Harris' team raised more than $81 million total from supporters, surpassing previous records.

Now, the president is preparing to give a keynote speech at the LBJ Presidential Library, located at the University of Texas at Austin's campus. The speech will take place inside the auditorium at 2313 Red River St. at 4 p.m.

Drivers have been told to expect delays and potential street closures on Monday between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport at 3600 Presidential Blvd. and the LBJ Library at 2313 Red River St. Traffic delays are likely, particularly on Red River Street, Robert Dedman Drive, Clyde Littlefield Drive, East Dean Keeton Street, Comal Street and Manor Road. Roadways near the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport might also be impacted.

University of Austin officials say Robert Dedman Drive will be closed between Deloss Dodds Way and 25th Street from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. You can also expect rolling road closures throughout the city all day on Monday.

For those flying out of Austin's airport on Monday, airport officials say they're expecting flight delays between 15 to 30 minutes leading up to and during President Biden's landing and takeoff times.
