Woman found stabbed multiple times in rural Atascosa County, airlifted to San Antonio hospital

Authorities say they're now searching for who dumped her.

SAN ANTONIO — Authorities in Atascosa County say a young woman is "fighting for her life" after she was found stabbed multiple times in a wooded area Friday afternoon.

Captain Max Peralta of the Atascosa County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) confirmed to KENS 5 they were investigating the case as an "attempted homicide." The unidentified woman, believed to be in her 20s, was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital in critical condition.

Sheriff David Soward said she was badly beaten and wrapped in plastic.

Peralta said calls for bodies found on the side of the road typically result in the discovery of a dead person. Instead, authorities are now looking for whoever dumped her as she receives treatment in the Alamo City.

"More than likely they probably suspected she was going to be not found and might die from her injuries," he said. "We do see this quite a bit. They use Atascosa (County) as a dumping ground, being so close to Bexar County."

The call to deputies was made just before 4 p.m. along the 4600 block of Eichman Road, just west of Highway 16. 2023 has been a busy year for Atascosa County investigators, who have solved six homicides.

Peralta reminded residents to call police if they notice suspicious vehicles parked along the side of the road in rural areas.
